I came of age on the late ‘90s internet, a very small world of DIY creativity and un-algorithmed self-expression. I’ve always loved exploring ideas and putting them out there, rough edges and all.
So in 2025 I’m creating the Undone Rituals Mixtape project, a year-long creative experiment outside of my traditionally-published work, outside of algorithms and what’s expected of me (don’t get me wrong–I love creating the things that are expected of me, but I’ve felt off-balance for a long time). Throughout the year, I’m going to create four seasonal “mixtapes,” inspired by a song or artist. They’ll feature exclusive writing from the intersection of music, creativity, life, and the seasons. They’ll be in 1-3 formats (depending on length) like lyric essays, personal essays, short stories, poems, photos, and/or zines – whatever suits the mood of that season’s mixtape.
This project is an exploration of creativity. It’s a way for me to interweave all the creative outlets I have, to explore the questions I don’t always get to explore in my writing, and to prioritize creating what I want. The DIY ethos has always been critical to my life and creativity, and it’s time to reclaim it.
Why Patreon?
Doing this on Patreon will give me the opportunity to devote time to writing while offering more behind-the-scenes access and exclusive content that I don’t normally get to create in a sustainable way. Patrons will be able to engage with the project too, whether it’s through polls, discussion, or the “digital ephemera” I’ll offer as supplementary content throughout the year.
Visit my Patreon page to learn more about the project. There are two membership tiers for Undone Rituals, and a separate “tip jar” tier if you just want to support my creative work in general (this tier comes with goodies too!).
Thank you so much for your support in any way you give it, whether you join my Patreon or not!
(Oh, and I just have to gush about the font in the banner and for each tier’s image – it’s BBT Martires by type designer John Misael Villanueva, and based on Filipino sign painting. Isn’t it great?)
Here’s to staying weird, the joys of the unpolished life, and curiosity above all.
