Draft complete (please read that in a Warcraft II orc voice).
The science-fantasy novella that was supposed to be a quick project became a trilogy rooted in Finnish & Filipino myth, asking questions about what we sacrifice to create community, and how we’re changed by the natural world.
Say hello to The Other Air. I love this story so much and I hope you’ll get to meet Alaya, Lumi, Ektelian, and the story’s characters from myth and folklore soon.
I’m also happy to report that my usual book-finishing rituals remained intact: 1) Crying at the end and 2) Listening to Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.
Here are some of the trilogy’s features:
⁂ Set on a tidally-locked planet where the sun never sets.
⁂ Folklore/mythology from the Philippines including nuno sa punso and tikbalang.
⁂ Folklore/mythology from Finland including Manala (the land of the dead), and haltija.
Now the editing phase of my life begins – wish me luck!
